Louisiana Folk Roots

Dewey Balfa Cajun and Creole Heritage Week

YouTube – watch videos of the band

The Blue Moon Guest House – Visiting the Lafayette, LA area? Love music?  Tired of boring old hotel rooms?  Consider staying at the Blue Moon Guest House, offering private rooms or dorm-style shared rooms.  Live bands 3-4 nights each week and a jam session every Wednesday night.

Café Des Amis, Breaux Bridge, LA – Offering the original Zydeco Breakfast!  Every Saturday mornings -  check the schedule, Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys are regulars.  Also look for Trio Kreyol on the café’s Wednesday evening acoustic series.  We highly recommend the beignets for breakfast and the coconut cream pie for dessert if you’re having dinner.  Actually everything we’ve ever eaten there has been excellent – and it’s a beautiful place to sit.

The Patsy Report – Greater Lafayette, LA-area Cajun/Zydeco Schedules and Special Events

Vermilionville: Cajun and Creole cultural heritage and folklife park, situated on the banks of Bayou Vermilion, recreates life in the Acadiana area between 1765 and 1890.  Full service restaurant, Cajun/Zydeco dances, gift shop, historic village, demonstrations of traditional crafts.  Our very own D’Jalma Garnier is a staff member at Vermilionville.

Instrument makers:

There are many excellent accordion makers in Louisiana and Texas.  We encourage you to support these fine artisans for providing the high quality instruments that help preserve the traditional sound of this amazing music.

Jeffery Broussard plays a single-row accordion in the Key of C built by Larry Miller, a single-row in the Key of Bb built by Marc Savoy, and a triple-row built by Dino Baffetti.

  • Larry Miller retired from building accordions full-time in December of 2006 and has turned his business over to his grandson, Jay Miller, who has apprenticed with Larry for nearly 8 years.  Larry tells us that Jay’s instruments are exact carbon-copies of his instruments, made using the same jigs, patterns, reeds, and bellows.  Larry personally inspects and tunes each one before it leaves the shop and he offers his same 5-year warranty on all moving parts.  Larry and Jay may be reached at: 337-779-2456

  • Marc Savoy owns and operates the Savoy Music Center: (337) 457 - 9563
